• Question: How did you get Keira Knightley for your debut film?
  • Lorene Scafaria: I love her in this part so much, and I've been such a fan of hers for so long. Even most recently in Never Let Me Go, I remember seeing that thinking, my god, she's brilliant. So human, and for someone with such ethereal beauty, she manages to play these powerhouse icy people, or pull out these incredible dramatic performances. I was just so excited to think of her differently. If you see the Pirates of the Caribbean movies or Bend it Like Beckham you can see she has such spirit and energy to her, and you see her in interviews and her smile and laugh are so infectious. She's just so luminous. The character was always British, and I thought, who would be the most interesting person to see light a fire underneath her. When I heard she had the script I was through the roof.
